Your parents thought it was bad enough in the 70s when they risked it all and ate the local food... But lots of you are risking more than a dodgy stomach with your favoured holiday pasttime... Check out research just out today.... shocking stuff!
The Staying Alive Foundation is MTV's grassroots-focussed HIV and AIDS awareness charity.

Ok, so you’re young, probably quite hot, you want to go out have fun… and going on holiday is just the perfect excuse to let go and par-tay, right? Well, technically, yes, but the trouble is so many people are taking it to the next level and just being a bit, well, stupid.
Here at SBWYS we aint got a problem with you having sex, but if you’re gonna do it - we ask for one thing - and that’s using a rubber. Strap it up (as many celebs who’ve passed though MTV would say). If you never believed all the stuff about getting some crazy-ass STD before, now’s the time to take note.. you just can’t ignore the stuff we’re about to tell you…
Ok, so here goes…
Oh, before we begin - you should know - we polled 3000 people aged 18-30…
* Almost a third (31%) have had sex with someone they’ve only ever met while on holiday
* 14% booked a holiday purely with the intent of having a holiday romp
* Almost one in five guys have sex on holiday for no better reason than their mates were doing the same
* Worryingly, 30% don’t always use a condom when having sex with a stranger, with one in five saying that they were too drunk to remember
* That failure to use protection has come back to haunt the 14% who needed an STD test when they got home. Meanwhile, alarmingly 6% actually caught an STD while abroad
* 77% of Brits think that holiday tour operators share some of the blame by encouraging promiscuous behaviour while abroad – for example through suggestive advertising, or through some of the activities on package tours
So what d’ya think about this? If you’re one of the people that falls into any of these percentages you deseve a good talking to (and not in a kinky way).
The most worrying one, I think, is the stat about 30% of people not using a condom when doing it with a complete and utter stranger. This is crazy behaviour, and i’m being all strict when i say, you could be risking your life…! Last year nearly half of all new HIV infections were among 15-24 year olds… one night of pash, even if it is with a hotty, just aint worth the risk.
And you know what… it’s not like condoms are hard to come by… think back to the days of Chaucer - (huzzah, i did remember something from school) - that wife of bath woman had to fashion her johnnies out of old rags. ouch and eurgh! Now the kind people at Durex, Trojan et al are making them in a million flavours, colours and sizes especially for for you. Yes, even you trousersnake. So no excuse for sexing like we’re in the 16th century…
Two final things.
- If you’re going on holiday have safe sex!
- Call us on 0151 266 7700 and tell us what you think about this stuff - defend the youth - slate the youth - share your tales of holiday explicitness… we won’t judge you (well not unless it’s REALLY bad!)
By calling and sharing your point you’ll make us all happy - so happy in fact that Spinvox will donate five dollars to MTV’s AIDS Charity for every person that picks up the phone (and it won’t cost you more than a standard rate call!)
PS. Drinking blue drink through a straw,
we’ll let it go… But sex without a
condom, nooo way!
